  • Stephanie Grisham said she was surprised Melania Trump cut her off after she resigned on January 6.
  • “I naively thought we were friends, clearly we weren’t,” Grisham told Insider.
  • Melania now disavows Grisham and seeks to discredit his new memories.

Stephanie Grisham was caught off guard when former first lady Melania Trump stopped speaking to her after her resignation, she told Insider in an interview on Friday afternoon, saying she “naively” believed that they were friends.

Grisham, who worked for the White House press secretary and the first lady’s director of communications and chief of staff, has become one of the few staff members and confidants in Melania’s inner circle. She resigned from the White House for good after the Jan. 6 uprising and has now come out with a revealing new memoir “I’ll answer your questions now.”

“It wasn’t easy for me after I quit on January 6th because she cut me off completely. And, really, even in my resignation letter, I told her, I’m doing what you taught me. to do, and that is to do what you always think is right, ”Grisham told Insider. “And I said it was an honor to work for you. So of course to be cut off from her like that, when I naively thought we were friends, clearly we weren’t, so I think it’s my trouble. “

The former first lady not only cut Grisham, but deeply denounced her former right-hand man as a liar and an opportunist seeking to capitalize on her White House experience by revealing unflattering anecdotes about the assets.

In September, Melania’s office called the book an “attempt to redeem herself after a poor performance as a press secretary, failed personal relationships and unprofessional behavior in the White House,” claiming that “by falsehood and betrayal, she seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump.

And, in a statement released the day before the publication of Grisham’s book, Melania said that Grisham “is desperately trying to rehabilitate her tarnished reputation by manipulating and distorting the truth about Mrs. Trump”, calling her a “deceitful and troubled person who don’t ‘I don’t deserve anyone’s trust.’

“Of course it doesn’t feel good,” Grisham told Insider of the attacks on his credibility and his personal life. “And I anticipated it. But anticipating something and then making it happen are two different things.”

Grisham said she had hard evidence, including text messages, to show she was telling the truth. And, in response to Melania saying she was away for a payday, Grisham said she “can’t put a price” on the emotional toll of writing the book and personal attacks and defamation.

“As far as Ms. Trump is concerned, I have always considered her to be a fairly honest person,” she said. “And a lot of personal smear campaigns that even she has started or supported, I know she knows they are bogus and I even have text messages to show us talking about these things. As I know, she knows these things are wrong. ”

Grisham added, “I understand that she’s mad at me. I expected her to be mad at me. I put some good things in the book. So it’s funny because that is it like I’m lying about everything or just lying about the wrong things? ”
