Like her Hacks the character knows this all too well, the path to the top of Comedy Mountain is twisty and treacherous, so Hannah Einbinder seemed to understand that Last show host Stephen Colbert did not remember her. Although the actress, screenwriter and comedian had made a set on The late show. Ouch. And while her acerbic aspiring comedy writer Ava Daniels on Hacks could have made potentially self-destructive hay from Colbert’s perceived act of erasure, Einbinder simply took the opportunity to grab some free shoes.
Now to be fair to Colbert, Einbinder’s Last show its beginnings had some elements against it, from a memorization point of view. On the one hand, Einbinder’s big break in March 2020 came just before the entire world was shut down because of this whole pandemic which decided to make a big comeback in the summer of 2021. On the other hand, Colbert n ‘never actually saw the pre-Hacks Einbinder is performing live, as his set was pre-recorded while Colbert was, one can only assume, taking a meeting to see if his film was in New York.d show was shutting down completely for the foreseeable future. (Turns out Colbert was set to launch the first (?) Late Night Home Social Distancing bathtub monologue.)
Yet though. Like Einbinder (probably used to the vagaries of mom’s show biz and original SNL vet, Laraine Newman) told Colbert it was always a magical night, especially once she had a load of cool loot in her Green Room gift basket. It seems that comfy socks are one of the ways Colbert puts his guests in the right mood for a chat, with Einbinder unmoved that now is the perfect time for her (in person, for sure) Last show comeback, as those original luxury hoses eventually wore out. (Einbinder praised the supportive nature of gift socks without making Colbert feel too guilty about his own lack of initial support.)
With some pleasant memories of working with his on-screen training partner and real life actor idol Smart jeans on Hacks, Einbinder recalled how, after a kiss between his bisexual neophyte writer and the old-school comedy group of Smart in Vegas, Smart saw it all, delivered the perfect overnight one-liner at Einbinder’s expense. (To be fair, Einbinder confessed to trying to milk the stage kiss for all it was worth.) Overall, it’s not a bad second appearance for the aspiring star, as the contrite Colbert, not only took out the sparkling to toast his Nominated for Emmy Awards the success of the guest on the just renewed HBO Max series, but his staff have put together a new pair of these really comfy socks. Unlike her Hacks character, Einbinder has learned not to burn your bridges, because, free socks.
