Kickers may well enter their forties. A kicker decided not to push him that far.

Stephen Hauscka, who won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks and kicked off for the Ravens, Broncos, Bills and Jaguars, announced his retirement on Friday at 35.

Former footballer Hauschka explains in a social media post sharing the news of his retirement that he first tried kicking football in his sophomore year in college. It clicked, and he then spent 13 years in the NFL.

In the regular season, Hauschka scored 264 of 310 field goals and 357 of 373 extra points. That’s 1,149 career points, which puts him 47th on the NFL all-time scorecard.

He sure still has his leg, and it will be interesting to see if he would pay tribute to Brett Favre if / when the phone rings during the stretch, due to injury or ineffectiveness from a current kicker. As the number of teams shrinks, there might still be a chance with the maid to hunt what would be a second Super Bowl ring.
