Turning around does not seem to be the Cowboys' main need in this year's draft as they have Ezekiel Elliott. But the Cowboys have in fact recruited two halfbacks, Tony Pollard in the fourth round and Mike Weber in the seventh. Cowboys Director of Operations Stephen Jones praised Pollard.
Jones compared Pollard to Alvin Kamara of the Saints, although he admitted Pollard was not up to Kamara, who has competed in the Pro Bowl in each of his two seasons in the NFL.
"It's a bit unfair – he's certainly not at that level, do not get me wrong – but a bit of Kamara, how he complements Ingram in New Orleans," Jones said.
As long as Elliott is there, Pollard seems more likely to play in special teams than in the offensive. He was one of the best back-to-school footballers with an average of 30.1 yards per return and seven touchdowns, while being named a two-time player of the year on the American Athletic Conference's special team. But Jones said that he thought Pollard could be more than a return man.
"Pollard is a real half-flyer. I think he can give you games between tackles, I think he can give you games as a real running back, "Jones said.
Jones is the same guy who said that Tavon Austin had played an important role in the offense last year, and that did not go well. Pollard will probably not play a particularly important role in the Dallas offense, despite Jones' optimism.
