Stephen Piscotty undergoes surgery to remove melanoma from the ear

Athletics announced startling news Friday on the right field player Stephen Piscotty, who underwent surgery to remove a melanoma from her right ear (complete statement via Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle). Fortunately, the operation was "Succeeded" according to the athletes, who hope that Piscotty will be healthy enough to return to the team within a week.

The tumor was spotted during what the A's called "A routine check" on May 28, which led to a biopsy and then to Piscotty surgery, aged 28 years. Piscotty asked team coach Nick Paparesta to set up the initial appointment by general manager David Forst (via Steve Kroner of the Chronicle).

"We think it was taken early, hoping Stephen is vigilant," Said Forst.

While this is a frightening experience for Piscotty, it's a relief he seems to be able to recover quickly. MLBTR joins those of the game to wish a good continuation to Piscotty, that we hope to see again soon on the field with the A
