Steve Cohen wants a GM who will take on the Mets’ big challenges

Steve Cohen set high expectations when he said he would be disappointed if the Mets didn’t win a World Series title in the next three to five years.

And the new owner has made it known he wants a front office ready to meet this challenge.

“Who wants them if we don’t set ourselves high goals,” Cohen written on twitter in response to a report from SNY, candidates for chief executive were put off by his aggressive goals.

Last week, Mets president Sandy Alderson said the team was no longer looking to hire a president of baseball operations at this time. Instead, the organization focuses “exclusively” on hiring a CEO.

Alderson said about six candidates have been interviewed for the role of chief executive so far. One of those candidates, former pitcher Chris Young, has stepped down from consideration for Monday’s job, Post’s Joel Sherman reported.

Young, who has three young children and lives in Dallas, has retired for family reasons.
