Steve Kroft signs from '60 Minutes': I want to leave as long as I have all my marbles left.

Steve Kroft officially signed Sunday night "60 minutes" after announcing his intention to retire on Friday from the program where he has been working for 30 years.

In a brief message at the end of the show, Kroft said it was a "difficult decision", but he still had other things to do and he wryly noted that he was not "rejuvenating".

"As my good friend and colleague Morley Safer advised a few days before his death," Do not stay too long, "said Kroft," There are still things I would like to do that I do not have. I do not rejuvenate I want to leave while I still have all my marbles, the energy needed to enjoy life and the curiosity to pursue different things. "

Safer, who spent 46 years on the show, died just one week after retiring from the show in 2016.

"I've done almost 500 stories for this show, and that's been most of the last 30 years of my life," Kroft continued. "It was an extremely rewarding experience and I want to thank you."

Kroft joined the band "60 Minutes" in 1989, alongside former legendary correspondents such as Mike Wallace, Safer, Harry Reasoner and Ed Bradley. He spent more than 50 years as a journalist, including 40 years at CBS News.

"Steve Kroft's reports for" 60 Minutes "are as important as all the correspondents in the history of this show," said executive producer of "60 Minutes," Bill Owens, in a statement Friday. "Steve, with his keen eye for detail, his rich writing and his demanding journalism, has set the bar for 60 Minutes for the last three decades."

Although the show will lose Kroft, it will win John Dickerson, who left his concert co-host "CBS This Morning" to become a permanent correspondent of the program. This move was part of a radical transformation of talents on the network.
