EXCLUSIVE: After winning some of the best reviews of his career and landing an Oscar nomination for his performance in A24’s threats Steven Yeun has his sights set on his next project. Sources tell Deadline that Yeun is in negotiations to join Oscar winner Jordan Peele’s upcoming Universal project. In addition to directing and photo writing, Peele will also be producing alongside Ian Cooper for their Monkeypaw Productions, through the company’s exclusive five-year deal with Universal.
If a deal is struck, Yeun would join the recently announced Keke Palmer who is expected to star. Two-time Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya (including one for this year Judas and the Black Messiah), is also in negotiations to play the lead role. This would mark the first collaboration between Peele and Kaluuya since the nomination for best picture. Get out, which earned Kaluuya a nomination for Best Actor while Peele won the award for Best Original Screenplay.

This latest project shows that Peele continues to work on projects with Universal that showcase various characters and voices. When Universal and studio president Donna Langley announced the exclusive deal with Monkeypaw, she underscored Peele’s commitment to be included in all of her projects.

Like all of Peele’s films, plot details are kept under lock and key with no clue as to what or who Palmer might be playing. Universal will release the film on July 22, 2022.
