BOSTON (CBS) – Morning showers will not delay the start of the Boston Marathon, said Jack Fleming, president of the Boston Athletic Association, at WBZ-TV.
Watch: Boston Marathon Weather Forecast
Thunder, lightning and torrential rains fell at 6 and 7 am from Hopkinton to Boston. This forced the state police to stop the bus convoy bringing the runners back to the Massachusetts Turnpike starting line. They waited at the Framingham rest stop as bad weather passes before continuing and arriving at Hopkinton just before 8 o'clock.
Wave One runners and B.A.A. Volunteers who were already in Hopkinton at the start of the storms were forced to wait in Hopkinton schools until it was possible to get out safely.
The Wave 2, 3 and 4 riders were retained at the Boston Common Parking Garage until the Hopkinton authorities gave the green light to the BAA.
The storms should clear Hopkinton around 8 am and Boston before 9 am
