Strange New Worlds Kicks Off Production With First Look Video

All systems are on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as the last live-action series of the Star Trek the franchise starts up and goes into production at Paramount +.

The news was announced in a video featuring series stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck along with their five new teammates: Babs Olusanmokun (Black mirror), Christina Chong (Doctor Who), Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush (Play for Keeps) and Melissa Navia (New Amsterdam).

The video (below) starts off with a familiar chorus as each actor recites part of the iconic introductory speech that started each episode of the original. Star Trek series, before Peck confirmed production is “officially underway,” with Mount later adding, “We’ve started. We’re in Toronto. We’re in production.”

New strange worlds will focus on the adventures of Captain Pike (Mount), his Second-in-Command Number One (Romijn) and Science Officer Spock (Peck) as they travel aboard the USS Enterprise in the decade leading up to the events of The original series, when James T. Kirk was captain at the helm. The trio will reprise the roles they all played in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, as the series returns to the franchise’s roots with episodic adventures that see them visit strange new worlds new and unknown planets, with longer emotional arcs for the characters that stretch throughout the season.

Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers will be the co-showrunners of the series, as well as the co-production of it with Jenny Lumet.

New strange worlds joins an already robust range of hiking shows including Discovery and Picard, as well as animated series Lower decks and Prodigy.

No release date has been set for the series, but it will air on Paramount +.
