Could the switch to streaming TV finally slow down?
Millions of cable customers have cut the cord in the last 5 years. But with many streaming services increasing prices in 2019, switching to wireless does not necessarily mean a reduction in monthly fees.
The average cable bill now exceeds $ 120 a month (and bills including home phone and Internet reaching $ 200), many are curious to know the next Apple TV service, which has just been announced this week.
It is expected that it will provide 25 streaming channels for a budget of between $ 25 and $ 40 per month (although Apple was curiously silent about the rates when it was launched this week).
HBO also unveils a streaming service for $ 15 a month.
Add to that Sling TV, the Sony Playstation VUE, Hulu Plus and Netflix, and the options are not lacking.
Costs add up quickly
But
A new report in Vanity Fair
indicates that consumers need to know the disadvantages before giving up their decoder – more precisely, how much can all these services cost.
- According to analysts, Apple's streaming television is expected to cost between $ 25 and $ 40 a month.
- Add HBO for $ 15 and Netflix for $ 10 – $ 12 a month, both of which are considered a necessity.
- For full live programming, DirecTV Now streaming costs $ 35 per month.
- The closest solution to a complete cable TV experience is Hulu, which increased its tariff from $ 40 to $ 45 a month in January 2019 (although its basic on-demand service was reduced to $ 6 a month ).
- And do not forget your high speed internet connection, at $ 40 – $ 60 a month.
By combining a cable replacement service, HBO, Netflix and high-speed Internet, consumers can quickly pay $ 105 per month.
Vanity Fair says
the cost of broadcasting could soon equal a typical cable bill, without the benefit of having a single remote control.
Consumers who can cope with local stations and Netflix can save a lot by cutting cables. But when it comes to adding movies, sports and more channels, streaming can become a case of "do not waste your money".
