Global smartphone shipments increased + 11% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2021. This was the second highest annual growth in the mobile industry since 2016, mainly due to the favorable comparison.
Samsung retained the top spot but lost market share every year. Xiaomi rose to the top two list for the first time, benefiting from the withdrawal of Huawei and LG.
Apple was in third place, followed by OPPO and vivo. Transsion, Realme, Lenovo-Motorola, Honor and Huawei feature in the top ten this quarter. Among the major players, Transsion, OnePlus, Realme and Xiaomi lead the pack with the highest annual growth rate this quarter.
It then focuses on Europe.
The highlight of the quarter is that Xiaomi becomes for the first time the first European supplier in terms of deliveries of smartphones. We estimate that Xiaomi shipped a record 12.7 million units to Europe to overtake longtime leader Samsung.
Samsung’s shipments fell -7% year-on-year to 12.0 million units in Europe in the second quarter of 2021.
