A savage brawl broke out between two passengers on an American Airlines flight – over a reclined seat that got stuck, according to footage.
The clip, obtained by KXAN, shows two men exchanging blows in the cramped cabin as other travelers watch and beg them to stop during Sunday’s trip from New Orleans to Austin, TX.
The footage shows a man waving his finger in front of another passenger before hitting him as another person stood between them.
Two men then pummeled the passenger who appeared to take the first hit, sending them into another row of seats while others scream for the raging melee to stop, the clip shows.
“Stop that!” shouts another passenger.
“Do not hit me!” a woman shouts.
The man who tried to separate the couple then hit a passenger in the back several times. The violent confrontation continues as the 44-second clip ends.
“Don’t hurt anyone else on the plane,” said another passenger.
Police officers from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Police Department responded to the scene after the plane landed in a “passenger altercation” on American Eagle flight 4698 operated by Republic Airways, an official said. American Airlines spokesperson at the Post in a statement.
The airline’s statement did not indicate what would have sparked the dispute, but a passenger said the feud started “over a seat that could not recline,” KXAN reported.
A witness told CBS Austin that two men began to harass each other over the stuck seat as the plane neared its destination.
“When the plane finally landed in Austin and the seat belt panel was turned off, the two jumped up and began to physically fight,” a passenger said at the station.
The men were escorted off the plane and detained, although it is not clear whether either was arrested, CBS Austin reported.
An American Airlines spokesperson referred additional requests to law enforcement. A message left with Austin police was not immediately returned.
