Subaru shows the first teaser video of its Solterra EV

Subaru showed the first video of its first electric vehicle, the Solterra 4×4 crossover, essentially confirming that it is a slightly reworked version of Toyota’s upcoming bZ4X EV, according to Autoblog. The two electric cars are the result of the collaboration between Toyota and Subaru on the e-TNGA platform designed for several electric vehicles, first announced in 2019.

The design cues seen in the teaser video, particularly the odd double roof spoiler, are similar to those on Toyota’s upcoming bZ4X (the “bZ” stands for “beyond zero”). The side profile in a longer shot also looks almost identical, which makes us wonder why Subaru isn’t revealing it in full and is done with it.

It also showed a dark image of the interior, with the centerpiece being a giant screen mounted in the middle. Again, this looks a lot like what Toyota showed us with its own EV crossover, however. Autoblog pointed out that Subaru seems to have additional functionality under the rotary knob. Another notable difference is Subaru’s reinforced seats which could allow for sportier 4×4 activities.

Other key details, like price and battery capacity, have yet to be released. However, the price could be anywhere between $ 30,000 and $ 40,000. Like Toyota’s offering, it is expected to arrive in the United States and other markets next summer.
