The suicide squad viewers express confusion over the film’s age certificate due to the violent content of the film.

James Gunn released the ensemble film last week with huge success, with many calling it the biggest DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movement to date.

However, some who saw the film in the UK were shocked to find out just how violent the film is, with many wondering how it got a 15 instead of 18 certificate.

“What do you have to do to get an ’18’ certificate these days?” Asked reporter Adam Lowes, along with another viewer. declaring: “I’m really shocked and confused as to what makes a movie 15 or 18 years old.”

They added: “The suicide squad has to be one of the bloodiest movies I’ve seen in years (literally disgusting in places) – and yet it’s a 15. When I was 15, that would have rocked me.

“Someone at BBFC had to take a bribe to stop The suicide squad being an 18, ”joked another movie buff.

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) website states that The suicide squad was rated 15 for “strong bloody violence, gore, language and brief drug abuse”.

In a statement to The independent, the BBFC said: “Although comparatively more violent than the last film, the violence is mitigated by the film’s humor and the action-packed fantasy backdrop.

Movies with an 18-year-old certificate tend not to perform as well at the box office, meaning studios typically try to tailor big-budget releases to meet lower age criteria.

The highest grossing film with 18 certificates is Fifty shades of Grey, which amassed $ 569.7million (£ 409.6million) at the box office when it was released in 2015.

Gunn’s film features an array of top stars including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and John Cena.
