Summary 'American Idol & # 39; Season 17, Episode 11: Ryan Seacrest takes a faint, duos all stars send one of the strongest fires of the season

[ad_1]

It was a whole new face of "American Idol" as Ryan Seacrest took his very first day of illness and mentor Bobby Bones stepped up to fill as a host.

He was accompanied by Lukas Graham, adorable band, Cynthia Erivo, Ben Harper, Julia Michaels and Chris Isaak as duo star partners. And we got some of the best duets of the season.

Lukas really worked hard with his partners, helping to bring new facets and new levels of trust from Eddie Island and Dimitrius Graham. But Cynthia Erivo created the most magical moment of the night.

Bobby's turned out to be a capable master, even though he was surprisingly stiff and uncomfortable for a guy who makes radio for a living. Maybe it was the prompter when he used to talk from the heart, but it did give an idea of Ryan's talent for doing what he did to advance that show.

Like Sunday night, three numbers were cut at the end of the show, including one that felt like it could really go far in this competition. And by the time the dust has dissipated, the Top 14 is revealed and ready to face the US vote next week.

Be careful, since I am safe at home, I will probably be a little more severe than my colleagues Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

Just for laughs, I'm going to rank the worst performance at first to see who appears as my Top 7 for the night. Then we will see if the judges agree, that is to say were right).

Raquel Trinidad (f / lovelytheband)

"Little dancer", Elton John

It was a bit of a mess. Raquel was everywhere and although the races could be good and fun in the right places, it created even more gap between her and Mitchy Collins. A partnership should consist of creating art together, and Raquel wanted to show what Raquel could do vocally. But even that is not as impressive as many other competitors. The connection with the song, with his partner and with the audience failed him. It just did not work.

Eddie Island (f / Lukas Graham)

"7 years old", Lukas Graham

Eddie tried to master the clumsy and he made it to his voice, but his physical antics still betrayed his lighter side, which was a bit disconnected from the lyrics. It looks like he's masking some of his pain through this silly character and he needs to gain confidence to actually let him down as an artist he really wants to attract people and become vulnerable. If he does not, there are many artists who keep the party lit, but it might not win a show like this. Vocally, he was stronger than expected and a pleasant surprise.

Logan Johnson (f / Julia Michaels)

"What time," Julia Michaels (Niall Horan)

He was better than expected but his voice was perhaps still a little too soft and shy. Neither did he change his tone, the song changing from melancholic to more angry. Julia took the lead and she was a partner of choice for him, but it definitely put her in the spotlight more than Logan. He's a talented singer, but he may be a bit early for his artistic development. He needs to find his voice and meaning behind who he is a little.

Evelyn Cormier (f / Chris Isaak)

"Naughty Game", Chris Isaak

Evelyn sang this song during her first audition and really stood out, so she now has to stand out next to the distinctive voice that has written it. Unfortunately for Evelyn, this has become a showcase to show how amazing Chris is on this track after all these years. She did not bring anything new to what we had not seen the first time and really missed an opportunity to find a place or way to shine. It's hard because there have been no surprises, we've seen it done that already. She has a good quality in her voice, but was it too forgettable?

Ryan Hammond (Cynthia Erivo)

"Keep me coming," Sam and Dave

It was a strange choice for Ryan, but he had done well at the end. He actually seemed a bit hesitant the first time he had a big note but he lamented alongside Cynthia at the end of the number. Ryan still has one of the biggest and strongest voices in the competition, but he does not always know what to do with it. He is sometimes like a natural athlete without training. All the tools are there, but he still does not know where to direct them. He just needs to settle in the groove of what he's doing and feel it inside and out.

Alyssa Raghu (f / Julia Michaels)

"Problems", Julia Micheals

Julia noticed that Alyssa was still a little too much of a leading singer rather than a singer. And it was still a little too clinical. Julia felt her way through the performance, while Alyssa was technically flawless, hitting every note as needed and stating even cautiously. She was also following Julia in the stage performance. That made Alyssa look very young … extremely talented but young. She will probably get there in time because all she needs to add, is the connection.

Alejandro Aranda (f / Ben Harper)

"There will be a light," Ben Harper and the blind of Alabama

Alejandro does not need to boast at this point because we know how great he is. So it was essentially a vanity duet with one of his personal idols. It was a sweet and subtle song and performance, the duo perfectly complementing the singing of each other. If we did not know who Alejandro was as an artist, this would have represented a huge risk, but on the contrary, it would only reinforce the fact that we need him in this series in the future. He was able to do so much with so little.

Wade Cota (f / lovelytheband)

"Broken", adorable gang

Wade was starting to get into this performance and we could really feel it in connection with the lyrics. It's a sign of someone who is learning to channel his emotional experiences into life through his performances and this really elevates this art to the next level. Wade continues to have one of the most exciting voices in the competition and, although he was very different from his duet partner, they did well. The song did not offer him the opportunity to really shine, but he brought it in every way.

Dimitrius Graham (f / Lukas Graham)

"I adore someone," Lukas Graham

The Grahams really shot down the most sincere and connected duo on both nights. Lukas helped Dimitrius to channel his own emotions through the lyrics. Finally, Dimitrius is fully exploiting the potential that he has shown since his first audition. His voice, his story and the strength that gave him something really special, but he needed to put everything in place. It has come together beautifully just now.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon (Cynthia Erivo)

"Time after time", Cyndi Lauper

Now it was incredibly beautiful harmonies and a perfectly paired duo. The voices of Cynthia and Jeremiah complement each other perfectly, they share the burden of words and, more importantly, we absolutely believe in every word of their sincere performance. In addition, you can see the mutual admiration of two artists who love what the other does, fearing to share such a special moment.

RESULTS

Last night, the judges seemed to make the strategic decision to keep more female voices in the competition and this could happen again. Eddie Island and Raquel Trinidad really feel like we're done, but we'll send Evelyn Cormier with them.

Judges, however, like it. Last night, Logan Johnson joined Eddie and Raquel in our last three, but he took the lead and showed real potential tonight. But we could see the judges give him the boot anyway.

As they did Sunday night, the judges shot the ball by sending people through in the Top 14, leaving three finalists at the end and realizing that the trip ends for them.

Katy started sending Evelyn (which augurs badly for Logan if our calculations are added). Dimitrius, Jeremiah, Alyssa and Wade joined her, who could not believe it. He still does not know how special he is.

Finally, Eddie Island received Luke's nod, which shocked him, as well as everyone else. Alejandro Aranda was a no brainer, so that means that all the potential Ryan Hammond has like voice just never connected correctly. And yes, Raquel Trinidad and Logan Johnson were at the door too.

Oh, and apparently, the big surprise that Ryan Seacrest had teased at the end of Sunday's show was his sick day. It's a little disappointing, man. We were hoping for a new twist!

"American Idol" airs on Sundays and Mondays at 8pm. AND on ABC.
