After eight weeks of auditions, the America has talent the judges have given yes to more than 150 (mostly) deserving acts. Now comes the hard part.
With the hearings finally over, the judges gathered in Simon Cowell’s backyard at the end of Tuesday’s episode, tasked with the impossible task of reducing those 150+ acts to just 36.
So which 36 will be heading to the live shows? This answer will be revealed… in three weeks ?! That’s right, people – EIGHT takes a little break from NBC’s coverage of the “2020” Summer Olympics.
In the meantime, here are the Week 8 numbers that could potentially be picked for live shows:
* Bini the rabbit, a rabbit who paints, who plays basketball, who combs his hair, impressed the judges with his… tenacity? OK, let’s be honest, the only enjoyable part of this act is Bini’s endearing coach. Despite Bini’s vote for the live broadcasts, even Howie Mandel admitted, “The bunny didn’t do much.” Click here to watch.
* Savannah Robertson, a 20-year-old singer who ignored comparisons to Beyoncé and delivered an emotional rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License”.
* Zac taylor, a young “adorable” boy from the United Kingdom whose sweet interpretation of “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar charmed the ladies of the public. (Side note: Simon Cowell called him “current,” which is the exact same compliment he paid Katharine McPhee after her American Idol audition.)
* Gabriella Laberge, an “angelic” singer whose first violin almost won a Cowell buzzer… until he heard that incredible voice. We love twists!
* Medhat Mamdouh, a beat-boxing recorder from Egypt who made Sofia Vergara dance in her seat – and Cowell regretting her initial skepticism. (“It’s nothing personal,” he later explained. “I just hate recorders.”)
* Sergio paulo, a Chilean juggler-slash-gymnast whose mastery of the art of bouncing balls would have been impressive even without all the acrobatics. Click here to watch.
* Pasha and Ailona, a dance “duo” from Moscow that blew the judges away with “their” incredible flexibility, haunting strength and pretty dance moves. Part of me wishes he hadn’t revealed himself alone in this costume, but the other part of me knows I wouldn’t have slept tonight without a closure. Watch:
* Charming bear, a trio of cuddly dancers who weren’t even that good… but they were so cute!
* Jonas McEnfro, a hula hoop tennis player who showed the judges enough good time to pass him up, even though the public didn’t get to spend much time with him.
* Anna mcnulty, a young contortionist who has turned into a human clock before the judges’ eyes.
* The scientific wizard, who may or may not be a DC’s Legends of Tomorrow totem bearer. (If you know, you know.)
* Lewberger, a trio whose Terry Crews’ musical pectoral salute – complete with giant flags – inspired the host to join in the performance. (Note: If you’re familiar with the Try Guys on YouTube, this group probably sounded familiar to you. Lewberger was also on NBC’s Bring the Funny show in 2019.) Click here to watch.
* Dylan zangwill, a 14-year-old musician with a voice far beyond his years who jammed on Queen’s “Somebody to Love”. Click here to watch.
* Rialcris, a trio of strong brothers from Colombia who piled up like the cat in the damn hat. Click here to watch.
* Mike Goodwin, an army veteran and college counselor who has since turned to standing comedy. Her crooked nursery rhyme routine started out slowly, but once on the right track everyone was hooked. Click here to watch.
* Anica, who channeled Janis Joplin with a perfect performance of “Piece of My Heart”. Click here to watch.
* Pizza Man Nick Diesslin, whose twirling skills were so good, they convinced the crews to start eating carbs. Click here to watch.
* KIDJAY, whose original hip-hop jam (“Golden Child”) endeared him to judges.
* Dflex, a breathtaking contortionist from Nigeria who dedicated his incredible audition to his wife.
