The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers were playing a very competitive basketball game Tuesday night. It was fun to watch and featured high level play for a half.

Unfortunately, the game reached a point in the second half where the officials decided they had had enough.

Shortly after the Lakers’ LeBron James and Frank Vogel received technical testing in the third quarter, Suns All-Star goaltender Devin Booker was sent off after receiving two of his own.

At the time, we did not know exactly what had happened.

The TNT broadcast showed Booker receiving a technical foul and then leaving the ground. Word soon followed that Booker had been kicked out, much to the chagrin of the team of commentators covering the game off-site and everyone was watching.

After a commercial break, TNT found the video which showed Booker receiving two consecutive techniques. The first seemed fairly ordinary, Booker expressing his frustration with the work being done by the officials. Booker then threw a rebound pass to a referee and quickly received his second technique after that.

It’s unclear if Booker was thrown more for the pass or what he said. Either way, for a close game being played at a high level, having a star player kicked out like this is extremely problematic and bad for the game.

The referees will speak with a reporter from the pool after the game to discuss the ejection.

Booker was the best player on the floor in purple before he was sent off. He finished the night with 17 points on 7 of 12 shots, three rebounds, six assists and three steals.

While Booker’s ejection was an obvious point where the game’s momentum could change, the Suns continued to trudge ahead and ended up beating the Lakers 114-104.
