While we already know what to expect from the amiibo feature of Nintendo Switch games these days, it’s always nice to know exactly what will happen when they are scanned in a certain game.
In the case of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury, it’s a game divided into two different adventures.
To use amiibo in Super Mario 3D World, you must make a small amiibo symbol appear, then scan your figurine. Here’s the full explanation, courtesy of Destructoid:
“Using amiibo in Mario 3D World The game is very simple: you hold the d-pad to the left as you play to bring up the amiibo symbol prompt in a level, then scan. 99% of the models create random power-ups or a 1UP mushroom.“
As already stated on the game’s official website, Cat Mario summons an invincible White Cat costume, and Cat Peach can create random power-ups – but apparently has no “special” functionality.
In the new add-on adventure Bowser’s fury, the “two main characters” for this mode are Bowser and Bowser Jr, and “everything else will summon random power-upsOnce again, hold the D-Pad left to scan in numbers. Here’s the full rundown of the source:
“Using Bowser on the NFC amiibo point will immediately wake Fury Bowser from his sleep. While this is normally a danger that must be dealt with and avoided, calling on Bowser has its advantages, as some walls / obstacles can only be destroyed by Fury. . Bowser’s abilities. So if you need him to spawn immediately to enter a specific area, you don’t have to wait for him. We’ve tested several Bowser amiibo, and characters like Wedding Bowser will also have the same functionality. “
“Bowser Jr. is special too, letting you trigger some sort of explosion. You can’t spam him because he has a cooldown: there isn’t much more!”
It should be noted that the Bowser and Bowser Jr. amiibo are not categorized as unique / special in Super Mario 3D World.
