Everything on Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is funny. The bright yellow menus with their lively and bouncy music? Amusing. The rolling around collecting nannies? Amusing. Collect and customize characters? Amusing. Even the launch trailer that Sega concocted with Powerhouse Animation is fun.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is the ultimate collection in Sega’s spherical simian survival series. It’s all 300 stages of the years 2005 Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, which includes all the stages of Super monkey ball and Super Monkey Ball 2. It has a time attack mode, a score attack mode, and challenge and training modes for the first two games. There are 12 board games, from Monkey Race to Monkey Tennis. There are special missions to complete in each mode in order to earn coins, which can be used to unlock characters, costumes, frames and filters in photo mode and special balls. And yes, it features cameos from Sonic the hedgehog, Person 5 Morgana mascot, and more.

So bright and happy it almost hurts.

I got a copy of Banana mania for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become the game I go to when I’m feeling a little down. Every aspect of the compilation is so exhilarating that I can’t help but smile when I perform. It starts with the menus, where AiAi, MeeMee, and friends clap and dance when their options are selected. This continues into the game itself, as physics-defying stages send our ape friends flying towards their adorable destiny.

When I have a problem with a basic game class, I take a break from some of the board games. My favorite so far is called Monkey Shot which is a first person rail shooter that arms my adorable little monkey friends with automatic weapons. It is so deliciously absurd. Why do monkeys need guns? Where did they get them? Was there a waiting period?

Firearms do not kill robotic insects, unlike armed monkeys.

If you’ve never played a Super monkey ball front game, Banana mania is a good place to start. Not only does it offer a wide variety of maze-shaped courses that you can roll your monkeys around, but there is also a special mode that kicks in if you fail a course more than a handful of times, which gives you more time to reach the level goal. . Be careful, there are cases where the extra time will not help you.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Cases like that, for example. No extra time will make things better. Good luck.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is available today on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It makes me smile. It might also make you smile.
