After his third game Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets rookie Pete Alonso decided to change his face by shaving his mustache during the match.
He hit twice and made a mistake in throwing before deciding to switch to Citi Field.
"I had already had terrible tacos before," says Alonso. "So, I think that, okay, the mustache should go away." As simple as that. "
After changing his look, Alonso hit for the third time in sixth and failed in eighth.
Alonso scored Monday his 46th and 47th circuits at the top of the league standings.
The first-baseman said it was not the first time he had shaved in the middle of a game, noting, "Oh, yes, baseball players are very superstitious."
The Mets set a team record for home runs by making six assists on Thursday, bringing Arizona 11-1 to a four-game sweep. New York has won for the ninth time in 13 games and has two games behind Milwaukee and Chicago for second place in the National League.
