Surface Duo 2 goes through the FCC with support for 5G, NFC and wireless charging

Microsoft is expected to announce its new Surface Duo 2 handset at a special Surface hardware event on Wednesday, September 22. While rumors have so far pointed to a tri-camera system, the device appears to have passed FCC certification with support for 5G, NFC, and wireless charging.

Windows Central reports that the dual-screen Android device was spotted in FCC documents released last week. The documents mention “Wireless Power Transfer”, but it’s not entirely clear whether the Qi standard will be supported for wireless charging here. Windows Central speculates that the Surface Duo 2 may include inductive charging support for the Surface Pen instead.

FCC documents also confirm support for 5G and NFC, both of which were absent from the original Surface Duo. Ultra-wideband (UWB) support is also mentioned, which could mean the Surface Duo 2 will connect to accessories that support the standard.
