US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy said the Biden administration will “monitor” to ensure that no one is abusing the COVID-19 vaccine exemptions.
President Biden announced a mandate last week that required any company with 100 or more employees to mandate its workforce. The only way to escape the warrant is to seek an exemption on religious or medical grounds.
Some critics argue that the exemptions allow for simple abuse, but Murthy insists the administration will ensure that does not happen.
“Unfortunately, as a country we have experience dealing with exemptions, but we have to be vigilant there and make sure that people are using them, you know, in the spirit that they are intended for and not. not abuse it or ask for exemptions when they don’t apply, ”Murthy told CNN’s“ State of the Union ”.“ This is an area we continue to monitor in the days and months. weeks to come. “
Biden’s vaccine mandate met immediate opposition from Republican governors, who made it clear they planned to oppose the mandate with much-needed legal action after claiming the mandate was “unconstitutional.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the warrant an “attack on private business.”

“I issued an executive order protecting the right of Texans to choose whether they receive the COVID vaccine and added it to the special session agenda,” Abbott tweeted. “Texas is already working to stop this takeover.”
Murthy said he “respects” that people “have a variety of opinions” on certain measures, including the vaccination mandate, which the government has enacted to try to fight the virus, but he insists. the fact that companies have “welcomed” these measures.

The new mandate would affect about 80 million Americans, with about 17 million workers in healthcare facilities also required to be vaccinated.
