2021 has been an excellent year for Playstation plus subscribers, Sony offering games such as Control, Final Fantasy 7 remake, and Battlefield 5 no additional cost. Last week it was confirmed that PlayStation Plus members will be able to add Hell let loose, PGA 2K21 Tour, and Mortal Kombat X to their accounts.
Sony recently offered 1 PS5 game and 2 PS4 games as part of this subscription, usually consisting of 1 big budget title and 2 intermediate / indie games, although the selection may vary. PS Plus subscribers were able to download Hitman 2, Oercooked: all you can eat, and Predator: Hunting grounds last month, but fans were hoping for a better selection for October. Sadly, it looks like the public isn’t entirely happy with this month’s PS Plus games.
A poll was taken on the PlayStationPlus subReddit to get a general idea of what users were thinking, and the overall reaction was negative. Users have the option to choose from Good, Okay, Eh, Dull, and Bad. As of this writing, 753 votes have been cast, with, eh, boring and bad, 604 of the votes. Almost half of voters say it’s bad while 36 users, less than 5%, think October’s offers are good. One user commented on the post saying he was only interested in Hell let loose, but can’t play it because they don’t have a PS5. PlayStation Plus subscribers had also expressed disappointment when the line-up was leaked.
Sony has been criticized for only offering PS5 versions of cross-gen games as part of PS Plus. This frustration is coupled with the fact that PS5 consoles are hard to find and many aspiring customers are stuck with their PS4s. Oddworld: Storm of Souls was one of those games, as only the PS5 version was available for PS Plus subscribers, although the game was released on PS4 as well.
It is also strange that Mortal Kombat X, and not Mortal Kombat 11, has been added to the service, especially when the first is already part of the PS Plus collection. The exclusivity of the PS Plus collection only adds to this problem as it consists of several well-known PS4 games such as God of the war, Unexplored 4, Person 5, and Transmitted by blood, but only PS5 owners have access to it.
PS4 users have to pay the same amount for PS Plus, but don’t get as many benefits as PS5 owners. It’s understandable that Sony is using the PS Plus collection as an additional incentive to buy a PS5, but that doesn’t mean the overall situation isn’t unfair for PS4 users.
