An alleged Capitol rioter was arrested on Monday after her former romantic partner accused her of taking a laptop or hard drive from House of Commons Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office with the intention of selling it to Russians, authorities said.
Riley June Williams, of Pennsylvania, who was seen on video taking part in the Capitol siege, has been charged with entering a restricted-access building and violently entering and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds, according to records of the Ministry of Justice.
The FBI is also investigating the laptop theft allegations, although there is no indication that any of them were actually stolen from the president’s office. Williams has not been charged with this allegation.
According to an affidavit filed Sunday, a witness described as a former romantic partner of Williams claimed to have seen footage of her “taking a laptop or hard drive from President Pelosi’s office.”
“[Witness 1] said Williams intended to send the computing device to a friend in Russia, who was then considering selling the device to SVR, the Russian foreign intelligence service, ”according to court documents.
“According to [Witness 1], the transfer of the computing device to Russia failed for unknown reasons and Williams still has the computing device or destroyed it, ”according to the affidavit, which includes a link to an article on the US Capitol raid produced by the British ITV News.
A woman who has been identified as Williams – wearing glasses, a green shirt, a brown trench coat, and carrying a bag over her shoulder – is seen in the video shouting, “Up, up, up.” , and pushing people towards Pelosi’s office.
