An illegal immigrant who became “unruly” and tried to escape border officials in Texas died in custody this week, officials said on Friday.
Border patrol officers followed a group of migrants near Eagle Pass for nine hours when they arrested seven of them while the rest fled, the US Customs and Protection Agency said. borders.
The deceased migrant, a Salvadoran, was one of a group of five migrants who were detained shortly after the first group. He was handcuffed with two other migrants.

When border officials removed the handcuffs, he reportedly tried to escape before being caught later.
He was restrained with one hand behind his back and placed on the hood of a border patrol vehicle. Officers then returned the migrants to where the first group was to wait for a transport vehicle.
The Salvadoran man remained detained. When the transport vehicle arrived an hour later, it was found “unresponsive,” the agency said.
Officers began chest compressions and called for emergency medical services. The Eagle Pass Fire Department responded and the man was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the death is underway and the officers involved have been reassigned pending investigation. The incident comes amid criticism of how migrants are being held and the conditions in detention centers.
