Suzanne douglas receives an honorary return from the sorority she has championed and helped lead for over a decade.
Beverly smithDelta Sigma Theta’s national president and CEO told TMZ… that the 108-year-old organization is already planning a special memorial service to honor the veteran stage and television actress who recently passed away.
We are told that the service Suzzanne receives is called the Omega Omega Service… which is a final rite of passage and a farewell service for the sorority sisters. The organization, BTW, is a historically black sorority whose notable members include Barack obamaformer United States Attorney General Loretta lynch and mayor of Atlanta Stockings Keisha Lance.
While most of the members organize their Omega Omega service locally… we are told that Suzzanne’s service will be a national celebration of her life and similar to her memorials for Aretha franklin and Cicely tyson.
Past National Presidents and Sisterhood Leaders will be in attendance. It will be open to the public… although the organization is still trying to determine where the event will take place.
For those who cannot make it, we are told there will be a live broadcast. Cicely’s live broadcast attracted over 30,000 viewers.
The sorority clearly meant a lot to Suzzanne. She was inducted as an honorary member in 2004 and was honorary co-chair of the National Commission for Arts and Letters from 2013 to 2017. She has been active in local, regional and national initiatives since her induction.
