Swamp247 Staff Predictions: Florida vs. Arkansas

GAINESVILLE, Florida – After their biggest win in some time, No.6 Florida will be looking to maintain momentum and move closer to Atlanta and the SEC Championship game when Arkansas makes it to town led by a familiar face. Former Florida quarterback Feleipe franks The Hogs are playing pretty well after posting a 20-game losing streak in the SEC earlier in the season.

Florida has had its ups and downs this season, but the defense has staged consecutive improved outings.

The Gators still have question marks as Saturday’s confrontation with Franks approaches, not the least of which is whether the star is ending Kyle pitts will be available after sustaining a concussion on a brutal blow in the Georgia game.

If Pitts is out it could level the playing field somewhat, although the Gators remain confident in some of their other options in position and in skill positions as a whole.

Either way, Saturday looks like a game full of interesting stories. Here’s how the staff at Swamp247 see it going.
___________

Blake Alderman: Florida’s offense has shown all year that it can score points in clusters. I think they continue to do that this weekend against an Arkansas defense that has surrendered a lot of points and yards this season. The Gators may have had a big win last weekend, but I think they stay focused with a lot more to play this season.

Score prediction: Florida 42-28 Arkansas
___________

Thomas Goldkamp: If it wasn’t for Feleipe franks I think this game posed a much greater risk for the Gators; it would be easy to come out slowly after a huge win over Georgia. But Franks will be motivated to play this one and Florida will likely feed off that energy in the swamp.

The Razorbacks can probably slow the Gators down a bit, but UF just has too much firepower at the end. I think this game will be Florida’s last real test for the rest of the time. Expect a close game for a while, even if the Gators have a lead on most of the game. Ultimately Franks will have a chance to play a late game that could keep the Razorbacks but a key turnover will seal the game for the Gators.

Score prediction: Florida 35-24 Arkansas
___________

Bob Redman: I think Todd grantham must force the hand of Feleipe franks and come to him strong. We know he’s not the best at finding the third and fourth option on a game, but we also know he’s got a big arm. The Gators need to get to him before he uses that big arm against a defense that has been sensitive to deep ball. The Razorbacks are the last of the conference in the bags allowed with 19. Catch him. Arkansas are less than average at running the ball averaging 3.43 yards per carry over the year, but sacks certainly play a part in that. They have a talent for running, but they don’t.

Something’s gonna have to give when the Gators get the ball. The Razorbacks are second in the SEC in passing defense, giving up just 222 passing yards per game. Florida loves to throw the ball. Arkansas leads the conference in interceptions with 12 and most of them came in the first three games of the season. The Razorbacks are 13th in the SEC in running defense as they give up 179.3 yards per game rushing. The teams probably looked into the run due to the Hogs’ ability to remove the ball in the passing game. This is not the nature of Florida and I think Mullen and his company will continue to pass the ball anyway.

There is a 17 point gap in the game in favor of the Gators. I think it’s a bit too much. Florida will be successful in throwing the ball, but will also try to limit things there.

Score prediction: Florida 31-21 Arkansas
