A total of 220 out of 329 MPs voted for the ministerial ministries of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi. Among the positions currently appointed are the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Petroleum.
Parliament will meet again on November 6 in hopes of appointing the remaining ministers.

The Iraqi political system is based on the fact that no group can dominate. The speaker is usually Arab Sunni, while the prime minister is an Arab Shiite Muslim. The president, who usually has a ceremonial function but plays an important role in forming the government, is usually a courtesy.
