The problem for me has always been that the characters in the show feel weak and therefore unidimensional and predictable. Certainly, exciting intrigues occur, but I just do not buy that the world works solely on the basis of power and self-interest. The characters are politicians or journalists but do not seem able to justify their lack of desire for influence or success, especially Frank. There is no one to listen to.
When Kevin Spacey was eliminated from the series after the fifth season after being charged with sexual assault, it seemed like a simple positive thing. I was tired of her Machiavelliinspired character. Now the House of Cards could finally follow Claire, her much more interesting husband, as president of the United States, but unfortunately, the series fails to describe it in a credible way.
There is a scene in the second season where a person tells Claire Underwood that Claire is a "good person". Claire then screamed in a staircase and although it only lasts a few seconds, she feels human right now. I had hoped that this humanity would be explored further in the new season, when the viewer would have a better idea of what's going on in Claire's head. Instead, the creators have chosen to create new intrigues and attract new characters that only confuse and interest the mind.
The last season really has two problems. The first is that, even if Frank is gone, the whole season revolves around him and he gets bored. The second is that Claire can not be a multidimensional and complicated person, without her being a copy of her cold, power-hungry husband. This means that the sixth season stamp is in the same place as the card game created for several years.
Finally, I do not cry the house of cards that is in the grave, but some of me are sorry not to do it in a fairer and more beautiful way.
