On Tuesday, Vatican City announced that remains of bone belonging to a human being had been found at the country's embassy in Rome during construction works.

The discovery again sparked speculation about what happened to two girls who, at the age of 15, disappeared by 40 days in 1983.

The first girl disappeared on May 7 in Rome after telling her mother that she would meet a school colleague.

Several theories about disappearance

The other 15-year-old girl disappeared on June 22 of the same year. Since she was a citizen of Vatican City and the daughter of a man who worked for the Vatican, her case over the years has sparked many other speculations.

In the case of the missing girl, one of the first theories that she was kidnapped in order to replace the one that carried Pope John Paul II in 1981.

The second theory is that the mafia took her to ask for a lot of money at Vatican City. In May 2012, the tomb of a mafia leader was opened to search for the girl, but no analyzed bone residue could be associated with it.

Vatican: The expert will determine the age and sex

The same month the grave was opened, the Vatican exorcist came out claiming that the girl had been used as a sex slave by Vatican police and foreign diplomats. He also claimed that she was murdered and that the police had cleared her body.

The latest statement from the Vatican State is that experts are now trying to determine the age and sex of what remains of the body and see when the person died.
