When Maryanne and Tommy Pilling were married, there were many who were skeptical. Despite their mockery, they are now celebrating 23 years of marriage.

British couple Maryanne Pilling, 46, and Tommy Pilling, 60, has both Down syndrome. When they married 25 years ago, many were skeptical, writes the Daily Mirror.

– They said it was disgusting and that we should not allow them to get married. They also said it would never last, says Maryan's mother, Linda Martin, in a Comedy podcast.

Yet, that was the case. Now, the couple celebrates 23 years as happy.

"So genuine"

The couple was married in July 1995 in Essex, UK. Together, they cook, go to concerts and play football. Linda Martin is glad that she refused to put an end to her daughter's love

– I would have liked to have found such love in my life because it's so honest . It's so authentic and it's very beautiful, "she says in the podcast.

Love at first sight

Maryanne and Tommy met in 1990, and they describe it as love at first sight. The rest is history.

– Their marriage is like a saga and they are the happiest couple I know. I think most of us can learn something from them, "said Linda Martin in the podcast.
