It may be possible, but Christian Kjellvander is definitely not at the lake with the new album.

ALBUM At "Wild hxmans", Christian Kjellvander allows himself to become freer than ever in his music. The sequel of seven songs is one of the best that he has recorded.

COAT This is not the way to make music in 2018. Not if you want to reach a wide audience through streaming services, really not if you want to take up space in the media stream. "Wild hxmans" is a commercial madness according to all modern digital strategies, but just because of that, it's really welcome.

Christian Kjellvander has his own voice in Swedish music since day one. Already with the rock band lo-fi Loosegoats In the late 90's, he emerged as a pensive songwriter, with a personal melody and a dark voice among a rare variety that was immediately listened to.

After that, he moved to Österåker, Sörmland, as a solo artist, taking the country and people to even more personal personalities that can no longer be classified with satisfactory results. Which in this case is a very good thing. The last time I saw Kjellvander performing at the Sthlm Americana festival last year, the approach was so free that the atmosphere almost breathed jazz.

On his seventh solo album, Kjellvander continues on the free path, with vibrating, slowly silly, lazy and low-intensity vibes in songs that typically last five minutes and sometimes ten. It's anything but extroverted but simply straightforward, with the same unique tone and temperament, and without a doubt something the most compelling artist he's recorded.

Kjellvander tells short stories about meetings, travels, sorrows and failures, but what an ear full of desire can call an endless sadness, the more you listen, it's more a kind of curious fascination for life . It's not a coincidence that two of the biggest models of this music lover are Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen. The images of everyday poetry are brought to the height of the beauty of minimalist music.

The previous album "A Village: Natural Light" described Kjellvander himself as a coherent "work" rather than a collection of songs, and at least as much for "Wild Hxmans". These seven tracks must be listened to in a suite, preferably completely without distraction. It's an experience of both cleansing and healing, about as far from the fast-setting of the modern world as it is possible to come.
BEST TRACKS: "False Guernica".
