Detoxed Denis, 6, had a surprise party

UPPSALA. Denis, 6, does not say anything.

But it radiates like a sun.

For the surprise party, the new bike, the toys – and the tickets for the football match between Sweden and Russia.

Thank you, Swedish people, thank you with all our heart, says grandmother Marianna Ilkuv, 52 years old.

She has tears in her eyes.

Tears of joy and gratitude.

And in the family a huge bouquet of flowers with crisp autumn colors.

Saturday morning, she went to Ivan, 53, and his grandson Denis at the hairdresser to cut Denis and the store to buy food.

A mountain of gifts

What they did not know, is that the brave man of Deni, Sufi Midia, and other people around them, have prepared a surprise party for Denis and his grandparents. parents.

To celebrate this, the Migration Board has put an end to the expulsion of his father Denis in an orphanage in Ukraine, pending a new investigation.

When they enter the Uppsala Stenhag Cultural Center and see all the happy faces that meet them as well as the hill of gifts on one of the tables, their faces burst with a big smile.

Grandma Marianna is so moved that the voice breaks when she says:

– We want to thank everyone. Everyone here and all the Swedish people. I thank you for all my heart.

Each time she says it – and laughs.

"We could not believe that there were so many nice people in. We understood that we are not alone in this situation," she said.

Tumbling week

Denis, recently cut and dressed in camisoles and camobyxor, is above the center and is hanging on his grandfather's arm.

But he always thought that something was happening.

"He usually sleeps a little longer on Saturdays, but this morning he was up at seven," says his grandfather Ivan.

The week was occupied by the whole family.

The letter from the Migration Board last Friday, with the decision to expel only little Denis to Ukraine, where he no longer has any connection, was a shock.

Marianna and Ivan filed an application for adoption two months ago, despite being deported.

For several nights they could not sleep and Denis cried and was sad.

"Where am I going?"

Not only the sorrow caused to mom, who died in March this year, he should leave grandmother and grandfather in Sweden, his only point of safety in life.

– He said, "Grandma, grandpa, where am I going, what should I do?" Says Marianna.

Aftonbladet wrote Tuesday about Denis – and Wednesday the Migration Council put an end to the expulsion.

"He's another boy now," says grandfather Ivan.

"He is very happy and started playing again, last night he played with me all night and was boxed.

Dinosaurs and cars

Denis's fate provoked strong feelings and many committed themselves. one of them is Vanessa Ebrahim, who received 67,000 signatures in two days against the decision.

She has also organized a fundraiser on Facebook – and those for money have now organized parties and gifts to please Denis and his grandparents.

While driving a new bike in white and turquoise, with a white ball on the handlebars and the associated helmet of course.

In the company of the other children, Denis opens the package.

It's a big box of dinosaurs he loves, lots of cars, a Volvo XC90 in miniature, lego, music clubs inside and so much more.

"I want to go home now," Denis said.

But when he sat down with Grandma and Grandpa, his face shone.

And yet, the surprises are not over.

Greetings from the national team

Sevana Bergström of the Swedish Football Federation, responsible for social issues in Swedish football.

She tells Denis that her grandmother and grandfather will watch the football match between Sweden and Russia at the Friends Arena in Stockholm in November.

And not enough:

– You will receive a t-shirt of the Swedish national team with autographs that you will wear when you go to the arena of friends and you will recover, "says Sevana.

The idol of Denis is Ronaldo, but it is probably the same for the Swedish national team.

Grandfather Ivan looks as happy as Denis – he and his grandson usually kick out.

Sevana Bergström promises to help Denis so that he can join a football club and play.

"It means a lot, both for friendliness, friends and languages," she says.

"Do not give me"

Since Monday, lawyer Baharak Vaziri has also worked on the case of Deni.

She is currently preparing an application for permanent residence and a new execution for Denis.

"In Ukraine, a clause states that he can not go to an orphanage if he is not better than what he is now." Only children whose situation is worse and who are going to better there, stay at the orphanage, "says Denis' lawyer.

– I will not give it to you until he gets a permanent residence permit.

On Friday, Marianna and Ivan also received letters from the Uppsala District Court, where the adoption will be decided.

Things are happening – and Marianna and Ivan are optimistic for the future.

"I think we'll adopt Denis," says Marianna.

– Thank you so much. Because you supported us and gave us the strength to live.
