Dif players facing the return to Mariupol: "We will continue

After ten years without a European match, Djurgården is back on the international scene in the second qualifying round of the European League, meeting Mariupol of Ukraine.

The first meeting ended 1-1 at Tele2 Arena after yesterday a late ticket from Djurgården.

At the return meeting, we now have to score to have a chance to move on, while 0-0 would allow Mariupol to go further thanks to more goals on the track. Win or cross with more goals than one does on Dif.

– We think we are a better team than them. Now it will be a passing game that will surely be a bit more difficult, but I am sure we will have a good match where we will score. We will try to keep up the pace, "said Djurgården coach Özcan Melkemichel before returning to the channel Football Channel.

Djurgården scored 1-1 in yesterday's match, but was close to putting 2-1.

– It's a double feeling that you're leaving with, says Jonas Olsson at the football channel, and continues:

– 1-1 is not a very good result, but I think that we are doing a good job. I think we are better than those in principle throughout the match. We start very well and create some three positions where we could have made a goal. Then it will be a cold shower when we release a goal when they have not really had so much. In the second half, we support without losing the balance. It's a match to, and you do not want to become too big uphill. It was clear that it was nice to recognize late, but if we had done 2-1, it would have been even better.

What do you think of your chances of moving forward?
– I think we have great chances. But it's a good team and I think there will be another match there. At the same time, I think we are better today. We leave with a good feeling with a late receipt. It's clear for you.

– It will surely be another image of the match there. I think we brought the match picture now and kept pace. It will certainly be different there. At the same time, if we win with 1-0 at home, you can go down to defend. Now it is not enough 0-0. We must try to go there, and I think it suits us better. We are the best when we are aggressive and on our ancestors. I have respect for being a good team, but I think we are better in most parts of the matches.

Jesper Karlström agrees that it was important to receive the late receipt.

– Considering because we were so long, I think it was good that we have a purpose. I think we will win these. They barely had a chance to score the whole game and we had a lot of good positions and we should have scored a few goals. Then it is clear that it is a shame with the post in the end, but we should have scored more goals throughout the game. It was a good result as we went to bed when the stop time began. But we will move to these – otherwise it's too bad of us.

What do you say about your chances of coming back?
– We must make a goal. If we make the first goal, I think we have a good chance. It was like we were watching them defensively. Forward it's just the last little … this has been the case in all the last Swedish games that we have created a lot of opportunities but not always. If we are just a little more efficient, I think we have a good chance to move forward, although it will be difficult.

The return meeting is held Thursday in Odessa in western Ukraine and not in Mariupol in east of Ukraine. The team really comes because of the conflict taking place in this part of the country. In other words, the border plan for both teams.

– This is obviously good for us. But that should not affect too much. We will go there, follow our game plan and hope to win and move on, "says Karlström.
