This weekend, the first French festival of sex workers was organized. The festival "Snap!" Aims to shed light on the situation of sex workers in the country and strengthen their rights.
Several exhibitions, documentaries and performances bearing names such as "Horor and Feminists" and "Sex Work are Work" were presented at the Paris Festival.
This arrangement is also a reaction to the law introduced in 2016, which imposes heavier fines on buyers of sexual services. According to Thierry Schaffauser, spokesman for the sex workers' organization Strass, the law forced prostitutes to meet their clients in more isolated locations, exposing them to more violence.
"This law has reduced the incomes of sex workers and increased the violence against them," she told AFP.
