Some of the places in Germany where old diesel cars have been stopped or should be banned:

Nordrhein-Westfalen: A court ruled that the state should ban old diesel cars in the city center of Essen and parts of Gelsenkirschen. The ban also applies to parts of the A40 motorway. According to another decision, Cologne must ban diesel cars in certain areas from April 2019. In Bonn, the ban applies in two different ways.

Rhineland-Palatinate: The main capital of Mainz must reduce the level of nitrogen oxide and fine particles below the limit values, otherwise a court will threaten the environmental zones from September 2019. This decision is subject to appeal.

Baden-Württemberg: The state plans to ban diesel cars until the Euro 4 class in Stuttgart next year. The ban on Euro 5 is still under litigation.

Hesse: From February 2019, Euro 4 diesel cars and older people are allowed to enter Frankfurt's city center after a court case. As of September next year, the ban will apply to Euro 5 cars.

Berlin: In October, a court decided to close at least 11 roads in the German capital disabled vehicles class Euro 5 and down in 2019.

Hamburg: Germany's second city, in late May, imposed a driving ban on old diesel vehicles on limited roads.

Bavaria: The city of Munich defies a 2017 court order banning certain diesel cars on certain roads, despite the threat of knowing.
