The accident investigation center has largely corrected the course of events related to the Kuopio bus crash, which claimed the lives of four people on August 24, 2018.

The bus reached a speed of 90 km / h as it approached the exit on the right. The maximum speed allowed was 100 kilometers at the hour.

The speed only slowed at the exit when the bus approached the junction of an iron bridge and highway. The driver realized that the speed was way too high.

The driver saw that there were cars on the lane that turned left towards the direction of your bus. The driver said that he had tried to slow down, but that did not work out. To avoid a collision, he tried to turn right.

According to the accident investigation center, the speed of the car was so high that it was not possible to turn. The bus continued its way over a shelter and entered a passenger car. Then the bus crossed a bridge and the border landed on a mountainside on a railway.

When the bus has stopped, the rear part has fallen on the track with the previous side.

The accident investigation center indicated that the bus had a speed of at least 50 km / h at the intersection, but that, judging from the traces of the bridge and the air traffic, the speed would have could be much faster. The travel printer does not provide accurate information on speed.

Several factors behind the accident

The departure was quite short and there was no other road sign that would have called for braking as the urban road sign located near the intersection. In addition, the park located between the highway and the exit limited the passage.

According to the accident investigation center, the driver's state of health and the heavy burden of his state of health reduced his vigilance. In addition, the driver had little experience with the vehicle and its controls, such as speed reducers, such as buses, used to control speed in a controlled manner.

The accident investigation center finds that the most serious injuries occurred when the rear end fell along the track with the previous side.

The investigation into the accident is continuing. The investigation report containing the safety recommendations will be completed by the beginning of 2019.
