Locals flee fierce forest fires near Athens | foreign

Two fresh forest fires ravage in two different directions in the capital of Greece, Athens. The inhabitants of the city were forced to flee the fires.

Authorities ordered residents of the seaside resort of Kineta, on the west coast of Athens, to flee their homes. The fire started on the slopes of a nearby mountain.

Fires destroyed hundreds of homes and hundreds of cars. Highways and railways have been blocked by fire and clouds of thick clouds are weighing on Athens.

At least 150 firefighters, five firefighters and seven helicopters are fighting to extinguish the Kineta fire.

The second forest fires began Monday afternoon near Pentelikon. There, dozens of houses were destroyed.
