Protests against President Daniel Ortega took off in mid-April

Initially, the discontent sparked by a new pension reform launched by the government in response to a rapidly growing deficit of the country's pension system. The first days were killed at least ten people.

The president quickly reversed the change – which had resulted in higher pension payments and fewer payments – and offered discussions to calm the mood.

The opposition to 300 people was killed and hundreds were injured since April

The opposition accuses Daniel Ortega of nepotism and try to introduce a kind of dictatorship with brutal repression.

The Catholic Church wants the election scheduled for 2021 to be postponed to March next year as a means of resolving the crisis.
