On Monday, the governor of Dar es Salaam, Paul Makonda, came out and urged the public to report suspects of homosexuality. Beginning next week, the alleged HBTQ will be arrested and face a jail sentence of up to 30 years.

The human rights organization Amnesty is now actively working on these projects.

"It is extremely regrettable that Tanzania has chosen such a dangerous path in the management of an already marginalized group of people," Joan Nanyuki, Amnesty's regional director, said in a statement.

Makonda previously said that he was waiting for criticism from the outside, but that he would not go away.

I prefer to erect these countries before resurrecting God, he said Monday.

At a press conference Tuesday, Makonda announced that he had already received more than 5,700 messages from the public. He also plans to create a committee to identify homosexuals in social media.

Sex is forbidden in Tanzania, even if there are few beliefs. But attacks against HTBQ's people have increased since President John Magufuli took power in 2015, according to activists in the country. Last June, the president came out to say that everyone should condemn homosexuality.
