Samsung Vice President and de facto CEO Jay Y Lee reportedly began a major overhaul of Samsung's mobile strategy and product portfolio. The reason is, among others, the decline in sales figures. Among other things, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is the first S-Series phone that sold worse in the second quarter than the first, 10 million units sold in the first quarter of this year, but only 9 million in the second quarter. S9 started selling earlier in the quarter than S8, so the figures may also be interpreted as a generally lower interest for the phone rather than the sale stopped early. The company should now have set a sales target of Note 9 to 12 million units, which is the same as Note 8.
Among the options being considered for the future, the ability to merge both product lines should be retained. Instead of one more S10 and one Note 10, we would have a bigger phone with a pen, whatever it should be. On the other hand, rumors speak of three S10 variants next year, so another possibility is to simply merge the internal workgroups, but there will be an S10 Plus with a pen-less.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to launch in a little over three weeks, then we'll see if Samsung's sales take a new momentum.
