Amy Adams! Patricia Clarkson! Visual style and narrative structure! "Sharp objects" is a hot series of hot flames and one of the best of the year.
It was hoped that Gillian Flynn's novel would be more than a real TV.
One would think that Amy Adams would be at least sovereign in mind.
It was possible to imagine how Jean-Marc Vallé directed the series based on the layout of the book and how the sections would be cut according to this result.
Yet: surprise.
Here are each movement, each crucial second and each scene to the benefit of the series; Abundance is a word that does not exist and of course this makes the series an intense experience
So: beware, the "sharps" are addictive, but at the same time heavy, certainly the most heavy to wear and experience and experience of the series I've seen up here this year, as well as in a very long time.
Since Jean-Marc Vallé has also directed "Big Little Lies", it's the easiest and least accurate reference. This is not the case, of course, everyone who has read Gillian Flynn's book about journalist Camille Preaker and her forced but necessary and from start to finish has failed in the hometown of Wind Gap.
Preaker is here to report a girl who has disappeared. A year ago, another girl disappeared – she was found later murdered. At the same time, Camille is trying to add some kind of puzzle to her education. It's been several years since she was in her hometown and she begged to meet her mother.
The relationship has always been tense. Camille quickly discovers that nothing has changed. On the contrary, and if possible, the resentment of the mother seems to have grown. Instead, it is Camilla's half-sister, Amma, who is thirteen years old.
Sold: "Sharp objects" speaks of a murder mystery, but the real mystery is what happened to Camille Preaker. His wounds are deep, both emotionally and physically (the title of the book and the series refers to Camille's self-harm).
Amy Adams exclaims so violently that it's often a jubilee to see her gesture. Camille is sardonic, has a constant self-esteem and Adams manages his character traits with his fingertips.

The rest of the set is of course, but many extra points go to Patricia Clarkson, who plays Adora, Camilla's mother, as well as to Eliza Scanien. The latter is scary convincingly like the manipulative half sister Amma, while Clarkson is equal to the monstrous ice as an ice monster.
"Sharp objects" is a psychological thriller, but also a series on matriarchy and power, if the suffering of women can inflict on women, because power, particularly misguided and misdirected, can be devastating, whatever It looks like.
Marti Noxon is the main manuscript of the eight episodes of minisites and, along with Gillian Flynn, has done a remarkable job on the adaptation of the novel. At the same time, the cut and the visual visit of Jean-Marc Vallé are the most important force.
In "Sharp Objects", was still fighting and currently constantly on the lookout. It's as if Camille could not or did not want to keep her memories under control; For a moment we have a glimpse of an event, sometimes it opens a door and we see what the room looked like over 20 years ago. Fragments that promise more revelation, fragments that build a larger image.
Admittedly, Jean-Marc Vallé's technique of visual narration can be perceived as disconnected, whereas it is the opposite: to be free here, a foundation of connection is needed.
It's also a way to remind Camilles of injuries, how she divided her life into pieces and tried to repel the worst. Impossible, clearly, especially when she is forced to live in her city, with her mother, that is to say the center of the trauma. There, waves of memories flush, wake up and draw attention in a way that vodka in the Evian bottles can never prevent.
"Sharp objects" is an intense marriage between the narrative structure and the game that, after seven episodes, is so strong that it is easily one of the best, if not the best, series this year .
