Spotify will begin distributing Google Home Mini to those who have a family plan in the United States, reports The Verge.
Everything happens in partnership with Google and the offer is valid until the end of 2018. For those who already have a family package, they will be notified via a link.
The agreement with Google sees the site as a way for Spotify to benefit from the growing popularity of smart speakers in the United States. At the same time, it also aims to prevent customers from being attracted to Amazon's ecosystem, where the company's music service is growing following the success of the Echo smart speaker.
Google offers music streaming through its own services, Google Play Music and Youtube Music. However, these services do not yet pose an equal threat to Spotify.
Finally, there seems to be a positive correlation between music services and smart speakers. A MusicWatch poll showed that it's much more likely that music listeners on Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music use a smart speaker than those who do not pay for music.
