Stockholm Pride – 5 things you did not know about the party

[ad_1]

In Sweden, we celebrate every year the people of the HBTQ with pride festivals across the country. The biggest is Stockholm, but do you really know the Pride Festival? Here are five things you probably have not looked at.

First Why the Pride Festival?

It was not uncommon for police in the United States in the 1960s to harass gay and transgender people. The Pride Festival was founded after a riot provoked by the New York Police in 1969. The riot began after the police raided the gay club Stonewall Inn. The Pride Festival appeared as a counter-reaction to the violence and threats that the people of the HBTQ had to endure.

2. Where was the first festival of Swedish pride?

You might think that the first Swedish Pride Festival was held in Stockholm. But this is not true, but the very first was organized in Örebro in 1971 by the Gay Power Club Association. Their main question was, first and foremost, to bring about a change in the law for married marriages.

3. Stockholm Shame

In the early 2000s, some members of the HBTQ movement believed that the festival of pride had become too commercial. Instead, they started the Stockholm Shame festival, which has now been established.

4. Stockholm Pride 20 years old

Stockholm Pride started 20 years ago. The festival was founded after the organization of Europride in 1998.

5 Why is pride celebrated?

Pride, which is the English word for pride, is also why you celebrate Pride. That is, to remind everyone that they should be proud of what they are without regard to gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. .

Pride Week in Stockholm begins today Friday, July 27, and everyone is welcome to participate in the celebration.
