Jenny Nyström (1854 – 1946) provides the family and puts the illustrator of the profession on the map. In this way, she was a pioneer, who is also the starting point of the exhibition on her life and immense production, as shown by the Sven-Harry Art Museum from October 26 to February 17.

Many will recognize the aesthetics of Swedish Christmas traditions, become Jenny Nyströms signum. She was nicknamed "Tom's mother" – who gave a face to the plot when she illustrated in her youth the story of the fairy tale of Viktor Rydberg, Lille Viggs Äventyryr, the Christmas Eve 1875. But Jenny Nyström was also a talented painter. Her early work at the Academy of Sciences was so important that she received a gold medal, a scholarship for Paris and was able to exhibit at the Parisian Parisian auditorium 1884 and 1885.

Unlike many of her academics, Jenny Nyström came from simple relationships and had to extract contributions from her country through her own work. She began as an illustrator – a profession that was not really present in Sweden – and that could bring life to her family.

The fact that Jenny Nyström was very aware of what happened to her in society is also visible in the art. The sled is often replaced by cars and planes of the latest model while observers listen to the radio or go to the cinema.

– During the exhibition, a new page of Jenny Nyström was born. Dragana Kusoffsky Maksimovic, CEO of the Sven-Harry & # 39; s Art Museum, is a strong, independent and modern woman who has already fallen into the dark behind such popular illustrations.

No Swedish illustrator has been so assiduous and has the same impact as Jenny Nyström. She has painted more than 10,000 paintings and she has been productive so far. Yet 70 years after his death, his weekend card is printed again, and his academic works, as well as watercolors, are sold in major auction houses.

The exhibition includes a hundred or so works, some of which have never been shown before, and have been made possible by generous loans to individuals. Thanks to a collector, Sven-Harrys also had access to a number of old cards with Jenny Nyström motifs from the 1950s, available for sale in the museum shop (limited number).

The Sven-Harry Art Museum belongs to the foundation for the art and housing of the Sven-Harry Civil Engineer, whose purpose is to promote the art, form and l & # 39; architecture. The building, designed by Wingårdh's architectural office with interior Åke Axelsson, was inaugurated in 2011. On the roof is a faithful copy of the founder's former home , the 17th century farmhouse, Ekholmsnäs. There is private collection of sculptures, paintings, furniture and exclusive carpets.
