Australian physician Richard Harris was one of those who saved Thai football players.

When he came out of the cave, he received the tragic message that his father had gone home to Australia.

On Tuesday, the message arrived: all the boys who got stuck in the flooded cave of Tham Luang in northern Thailand were evacuated.

One of the players in the rescue of the football team was the Australian physician Richard Harris. He interrupted his vacation to help.

With three soldiers from the Thai navy, he was the last to come out of the cave.

For three days in the cave, Richard worked to assess the health status of boys and coaches, then decided who evacuated first.

– He is internationally recognized for his skills in cave rescue, says Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop at ABC Adelaide.

After the doctor – now hailed as a hero – came out a tragic message. His father had gone home to Australia.

– This is obviously a time of sadness for Harris and his family. He is reinforced by the physical and emotional strains he's endured during the complicated but successful rescue operation of last week, says Andrew Pearce at ABC Adelaide
