The Presidential Office Macron confirms to several news agencies that Benalla was allowed to be in place during the protests as an observer.
On Thursday, prosecutors announced that the attack had been reported and that an investigation had been opened against Benalla. He is suspected of having used violence and falsely refused to be a police officer. The latter crime can result in up to one year imprisonment and fines of up to 15,000 euros.
