Changes in the CFP under Uwe Rösler
Uwe Rösler did not come to take new ideas. There was a lot of things on the same ideas as before, but with a little screw and a touch. Training harder, but it's hard to see such results on a match. Today, it was a little more direct, a little more defined against 3-5-2, some minor changes in the role, perhaps also freer players.
At the same time, no player had a significantly larger or lesser role, and there is still a team that likes to push up and get to positions. MFF still believes that many of the things they have done before have been good at first, but not because of adversities and details.
The Unexpected Role of Oscar Lewicki
However, there were a few things we needed to see differently in the CFP. Sören Rieks was the left winger, and for years coaches have moved Oscar Lewicki between the back line and the defensive midfielder. Today he was in front of Fouad Bachirou, to the right of the Tremannite field, in a double sense.
Lewicki covered Eric Larsson when he rushed, he came close to Sirius' penalty area, he was helpful in the press game, and he scored a number of very good passes (for example at 0-1). When I spoke to Lewicki yesterday, I asked questions when he last played ("The Boyhood") and what else he could give to the offensive from the MFF ("Yes-a, you …" followed by a smile). It's hard to say that he did a supermatch, considering how much Sirius played, but he gave a lot to the game of MFF
Sirius – really bad for almost a year
Sirius has three wins over the last 26 matches (one of the victories against relegation club AFC Eskilstuna). They lost 18 of them and released 65 goals (an average of 2.5 goals per game). In the last ten games, they have scored only one point, at home against Trelleborg.
It's only at a certain limit that you can talk about the impact of the damage because they have experienced at least a good start in many matches. That they are trying to play a nice football can also serve as an excuse in a short period of time. It has been a real pain for almost a year, and a good part of their 2018 will be marked by the next five games, where they will meet the match Brommapojkarna and Dalkurd two games, among others.
Fixed situations were the only ones that could have made the difference
Last year's match between the two teams ended 4-0 at MFF and 3-3 at the second, but in the match 3-3, MFF dominated only Then, he scored a few goals on fixed situations.
Rösler has long spoken of fixed situations as a point of improvement of the MF and the great strength of Sirius. MFF has established many minutes of training, they met Midtjylland (one of the best teams in Europe in permanent) during the stay, and have struggled to be less in the statistics on the free kicks, corners and shots.
The only time Sirius was close to today, even fixing something was a pair of corners that could have bounced differently. That, and the low end power of MFF (despite 0-4), was really the only thing that could give Sirius anything.
A good step back?
Malmö FF will vote on Isak Ssewankambo next week, so his loan (with option to buy) will expire soon. He was very well received by Rösler after the first training match, but today Eric Larsson made a good return match and Andreas Vindheim came in and helped out. Both are, when they are harmless and in shape, certainly good enough to play a lot of minutes in the CFP.
Both have been prioritized today over Ssewankambo, and although Ssewankambo has versatility as a strength, there is no clear place for him. During a week of work, he was among the central midfield, but also he has four to five players to cross.
