Microsoft SwiftKey fans are adamant that their soft keyboard is the best, but the Android version unmistakably lacked a pretty neat feature that other keyboards like Gboard have: slide cursor control. Or at least that was true until today, as the latest beta just took over the functionality. And true to form, SwiftKey did his slightly better version than Google’s implementation.
Hold for a moment, then drag to move your cursor – anywhere on the keyboard, not just in the space bar.
Unlike Gboard, Swiftkey’s cursor control allows you to drag anywhere on the keyboard to move the cursor within a text field. You don’t need to lock yourself in just the area around the space bar. And honestly, it’s kind of a smart move. You can’t look in two places at once, and I accidentally left the cursor menu on Gboard more than once while swiping out of the area.
There is a little caveat for those coming from Gboard because triggering the cursor movement is right slightly different from what it is on the Google keyboard. Instead of just swiping on the space bar and immediately having your cursor move, you need to hold or long press the space bar for a little while and then start dragging. Presumably, this difference is so that it doesn’t interfere with SwiftKey’s language selection feature, which allows you to swipe on the space bar to change languages.
This change appears to be the sum total of what’s new in the latest beta of SwiftKey and encapsulates the entire changelog published on the Play Store for version 7.6..24 (below). The feature has also debuted for SwiftKey on iOS since January, although it has been a popular request for years.

As you might expect, Android Police’s Artem Russakovski is terribly excited about the feature, which has been requested by users for years. Those who want to work their way through small screen text editing can download the latest beta of SwiftKey from the Play Store or APK Mirror.
